AYLIN UYAN

Biography

Aylin Uyan is multi-disciplinary artist......

From the Mediterranean shores of Turkey to the creative hubs of London, Italy, and the United States, my journey as an artist has been a global odyssey. My foundation in Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (University of Ankara) instilled in me a lifelong obsession with proportion and space. Recognized at age 19 by the Italian Artists group with a Mediterranean design award, I have spent decades balancing the structured world of design with the fluid world of fine art.

My work has been shaped by the cities I’ve called home—capturing the athletic energy of London’s modern dancers, the quiet beauty of Alabama’s landscapes, and currently, the rich intellectual atmosphere of Pennsylvania.

Artist Statement

My work is an exploration of the human form, the natural world, and the "perfect mistakes" that happen in between. What began as a technical study of proportions for architecture evolved into a deep passion for capturing the essence of motion. Whether I am sketching the contours of a dancer’s muscles or the rhythmic branches of a tree, I seek to transform movement into a visual symphony.

Process & Evolution

My style has evolved from the precision of plain, brushless surfaces to a bold, experimental embrace of the acrylic medium. Today, I often use a paddle-wedge, favoring spontaneity over-controlled strokes. I deliberately conceal or downplay figures within vibrant, layered compositions, inviting the viewer to look closer and find their own unique interpretation within the color. For me, the joy of art lies in the "whimsical story" that emerges when I allow room for mistakes to become the most vital part of the canvas.

Literature, Poetry, and The Odyssey

I believe in the deep interconnectedness of art forms. My "Odyssey Project"—a collaboration with author Esra Beyatli—translated the emotions of a novel into 12 large-scale paintings, a process captured in a live audiobook-film. Currently, I am returning to my roots, translating the poetry of my teenage years into a new series of works. These paintings are a tapestry of the cities I’ve visited and the people I’ve met, proving that inspiration is a precious gift that flows from every direction if we simply allow it.
