AYLIN UYAN
From Turkey to England, Italy to the US, Aylin had an incredible journey as an artist. Being exposed to different cultures and lifestyles around the world shaped her unique artistic style. She studied Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at the University of Ankara, fulfilling her childhood dream.
Her first recognition as an artist came from the group called Italian Artists at the age of 19. She was invited to Southern Italy to receive a design award that symbolized the Mediterranean continents.
While living in London, Aylin started sketching nudes in colorful compositions, an experience that proved instrumental in creating her pop art collection after she moved to the US in 1993. The influences and techniques she gained in England significantly contributed to her unique style. She has also developed a profound appreciation not only for the human body but also for its movements. She particularly enjoys sketching athletic figures and modern dancers, capturing the essence of motion.
While living in Alabama, Aylin's two paintings were accepted at the Carnegie Visual Art Center in Decatur, Alabama. During that period, she balanced her interior design career with her passion for art, viewing the creation of space as an opportunity to craft lasting memories.
Currently residing in Pennsylvania, Aylin is immersed in various art projects. She explores the intersection of literature and music, examining their impact on emotions and how these emotions manifest in her visual art. One notable project involved creating art for a novel called 'Odyssey' by Esra Beyatli, where she translated her emotions onto canvas for each chapter and recorded herself in the process. This collaborative effort transformed into a live audiobook, accompanied by recordings of her creating the paintings in real-time
Her latest inspiration derives from her own poetry, penned during her teen years. Bursting with emotions, these verses are inspired by the cities she visited, the people she met, and even by an orange tree. Aylin aspires to transfer these poetic expressions onto her canvas, capturing the rich tapestry of her life experiences.

About
ARTIST STATEMENT
Since my college days, I've been sketching the human body, as understanding its proportions was essential for creating perfect spaces in the field of interior design. Looking back, I never imagined repeatedly sketching human figures would become my passion today. I find joy in capturing not just the beauty but also the imperfections of it.
My inspiration is derived from the human body as well as its surroundings. Portraying motion is my passion. I use vibrant compositions to evoke motion, transforming it into a beautiful symphony. My continuous study involves sketching dancers, ballet movements, and athletic figures. I am particularly drawn to nude or figurative forms, such as athletic or dance movements. I imagine my characters continue their journey on my canvas. I use the contours of body muscles to create vibrant and colorful compositions.
In my early works, I preferred plain surfaces, painting without visible brushstrokes to achieve a perfectly even color. These pieces were created with a minimal color palette. Now, having developed a fondness for working with acrylic medium, I create compositions that are intentionally crafted to draw attention to color rather than the figure. I aim to provoke curiosity about the actual positioning of the figure on the canvas. Deliberately concealing or downplaying the figure allows each viewer to perceive the painting in a unique way. My joy lies in observing people's reactions and interpretations of my paintings.
Recently, I've been also experimenting with a paddle -wedge. I cherish the spontaneity it brings to my canvas. Instead of deliberate, controlled brushstrokes, I embrace unexpected images that weave into a perfect story. Embracing mistakes and learning how to incorporate them into my artwork has been a truly rewarding experience.
One of the latest projects I've been working on is called 'Odyssey.' I've created 12 paintings, each expressing my emotions as I read through the chapters of a great book called Odyssey, Walls Within. Every painting has a whimsical story behind it. My goal was to capture emotions and convey a sense of motion, as I always strive to do. We transformed this project into an audiobook-film featuring live paintings. During the recording process of Odyssey, I had the opportunity to closely observe myself —initially striving to create a specific image, then allowing room for mistakes. Witnessing those 'perfect mistakes' becoming an ideal match for my paintings was enlightening. I am currently immersed in the exploration of crafting stories through the deliberate inclusion of mistakes, resulting in works that are almost abstract but not quite.
Another passion of mine is exploring connections between literature, poetry, and fine art, as I believe in the interconnectedness of various art forms. Inspiration can flow to us from every direction if we allow it. I continue my journey by capturing the emotions embedded in the poetry I wrote during my teen years. I draw continuous inspiration from the world around me, considering it a precious gift.
